In December, amidst a few brewery closings in the state, 1933 Brewing announced a sale of their brewery to longtime head brewer, Zach Wilson, but they’ve been mum about what the future holds until now.
In a press release posted on the newly-minted Purpose Brewing and Cellars website, and hinted to by the 1933 Facebook page, owners Zach and Laura Wilson announced that 1933 Brewing will transform into Purpose Brewing and Cellars along with the guidance and influence of Peter Bouckaert, who previously has been the brewmaster of New Belgium Brewing for the past 21 years.
“We believe that everything in life has a purpose. Our purpose is to use a thoughtful, artistic, collaborative and authentic approach to craft one-of-a-kind coffees and beers. Our mission at Purpose Brewing and Cellars is to inspire creativity, promote craftsmanship, and support our local community.”
According to Craft Beer.com, Bouckaert will eventually transition out of New Belgium and into his new digs at Purpose, but for the time being, he’ll balance both.
“Our intention is to create an entirely new experience for beer lovers,” says Laura Wilson. Zach adds, “We want everyone to experience and learn about the craft and beauty of brewing the minute they step into Purpose Brewing and Cellars.”
According to Purpose Brewing, Bouckaert’s knowledge, experience, and ingenuity will complement Wilson’s purpose-driven craftsmanship. Look for some incredible things to come from these two. In addition to beer, Purpose Brewing will eventually add wood-fired coffee into the mix, completing the “brewing” side of things.
So far, the plan is to open this Summer, right in the same spot as 1933 Brewing, but if you’ve been paying attention to 1933’s Facebook page, you’ve noticed new accoutrements and details are constantly being added to the space. They’re planning to start off with a few limited production beers as well as offering tastings from their new cellar room.
If Bouckaert’s influence on the New Belgium sour program is any indication, Purpose Brewing will be brewing some pretty incredible beers.
